University of Amsterdam Library
For the renovated University Library of the University of Amsterdam, we delivered an extensive, fully bespoke interior fit-out. Located in the heart of Amsterdam’s historic city centre and spread across several monumental buildings, we worked from 2021 through 2025 on a library designed for intensive use and long-term future readiness.
Together with the client, we embarked on an inspiring journey that resulted in an exceptional final outcome. We look back with pride on a successful project, during which we completed multiple tender procedures and worked closely together to create a high-quality, carefully considered interior environment.
5,000 metres of library shelving.
In close collaboration with the client, BINX Smartility and architect MVSA, we manufactured and delivered all bespoke interior elements for the project. From no less than 5 kilometres of bookshelves to 60 unique reading tables with integrated lighting, as well as reception desks, pantries, seating furniture, wall cladding, lecture hall furnishings, display cabinets, a book return point, locker units and study workstations.
Every element was specifically designed for this library and contributes to a calm, functional and high-quality learning environment.
Along Amsterdam’s canals.
What makes this project unique is not only the extensive amount of bespoke craftsmanship, but also the complexity of its location. Due to the inner-city setting and the building’s historic character, all materials and components were transported via Amsterdam’s canals.
In addition, a smart value-engineering approach was applied during the preparation phase in the development of the bookcases, achieving greater efficiency without compromising on quality or appearance.
Modular reading tables
The reading tables were further developed by our engineering team to be fully modular, allowing tabletops and legs to be easily modified or replaced in the future.
The result is a heavily used university library that all parties involved look back on with pride. The client and end users are highly satisfied with the process, the quality of the work, and the aftercare provided.
